The company may look great and feel great but for a company to act or function great is highly crucial. For a company to act great one must think in a different way about how it function than most companies.

Many companies I know out there are highly people oriented rather than process oriented.

People oriented companies function so differently when compared to process oriented companies!

Highly successful companies like Google, Apple, FedEx, IBM etc. across the globe are deeply process driven.

To make a promise — and to accept full responsibility for the delivery of that promise — requires control, the kind of control that only a process-oriented company can hope to exercise.

— Michael e. Gerber, Author of E-myth Book Series

Let’s checkout different insights why process oriented companies thrive over people oriented ones.

  • The people oriented companies are the ones that focus more on people. Bringing in the best people and completely depend on them to finish the task.
  • Where as the process oriented companies focus on building the good processes and get in the people and train them to fit in the process and finish the task. refine the process and make it better then again refine the process and make it best.
  • When you solely depend on the people it’s very hard to deliver the best output when the best people leave the company! On the other hand if you depend on process you can easily replace to perform the particular task in the process and still deliver the best output.
  • Similarly, when something goes wrong in a people oriented company, the very people play blame game which even worsen the situation and culture. Whereas in a process oriented company, if something goes wrong, people come back to process and adjust and upgrade the efficiency of the process to work better.
  • In a people oriented companies, if you can’t find the best talent for the job, then the whole system gets spoiled and inefficient which is not the case of process oriented companies.
  • In process oriented companies bring in people(even the fresher), train them according to the process set for the task and let them work! If something goes wrong always check the efficiency of the process and make it better.

Conclusion

It’s highly recommended to build great processes in your company right from the beginning that’s how, many companies thrive.

No doubt people are highly important what’s more important to drive great results is a great process and continuous iteration of great process!
